Donald John WalterOctober 5, 1933 ~ December 1, 2017 (age 84)
Donald John Walter, 84, of Palmetto, FL, passed away peacefully on December 1st with his wife of 64 years, Karen (Baumann) Walter and children at his side.
All who knew him loved and admired him. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children and spouses: Lynn and Jeff Soowal of SC, Lee and Gary Greivell of SC, Laurie and Fred Mendelsohn of FL, Donald II and Wenda Walter of VT and FL; 11 Grandchildren and spouses; 10 1/2 Great-Grandchildren; and sister Carole Demski of WI.
He grew up in Milwaukee, WI, attended UW Milw., spent 2 years in the Army then attended UW Madison. In '57, he was hired by Boeing in Seattle. In '60 he went to work for A.C. Electronics on the Apollo Space Program in Oak Creek, WI. He and Karen raised their family on Little Muskego Lake, WI. He was hired as CEO of Zerand Corp. in New Berlin, WI in '69. In '75, he bought his own business, Glendale Supply Co. and sold it in '79. In '81, he and Karen "retired" to FL. In '92, they sold everything and moved onto a trawler and boated for 3 1/2 years, doing trips up the E. Coast, the Great Circle and the Bahamas. In '97, he and Karen again settled down in Palmetto, FL. Summers from 2007 - 2015 were spent in SC at their farm.
His love of family, life and boating was contagious and shared by all who knew him.
A funeral mass will be held at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Palmetto, FL on January 20th at 1PM.
