Eris Jeanette SmithOctober 25, 1929 ~ July 7, 2017 (age 87)
Eris Jeanette Smith was promoted to Glory on July 7, 2017 from Hawthorne Village in Sarasota, Florida. She was born October 25, 1929 in Cairo, Georgia to Elmer Jackson and Vergie Abigail Sellers. Later their family moved to Florida. She was the oldest daughter of 15 children. On February 3, 1950, she married Lester T. Smith, who died on May 5, 2005. Together they raised six children, Janice, Karen, Todd, Lynn, Steve, and Gail, in Samoset and Oneco, Florida. Upon retirement they moved to East Bradenton.
Lester and Jeanette were members of The Salvation Army of Bradenton. Jeanette served as the corps Young Peoples Sergeant Major for over 25 years and taught the nursery Sunday School class. She managed The Salvation Army Family Store of Bradenton for 15 years.
Jeanette was a faithful wife for 55 years and a loving mother. She was also known as a gracious caregiver, gifted poet and prayer warrior. The Godly influence that she instilled in others cannot be measured by any earthly value. Her gift to others was to spend her life directing them to the giver of life Jesus Christ.
Jeanette is survived by her two brothers, James and Ted Sellers; two sisters, Mildred Sellers and Rosemary Pierson; two daughters, Karen Sorkin and Gail Pedersen of Bradenton, Florida; and two sons, Todd Smith of Crescent City, Florida, and Steve Smith of Bradenton, Florida. She is also survived by eleven grandchildren, Joy Wood, Mike Tuno, Sarah Carter, Rebekah Tuno, Roger Walker, Jr., Travis Smith, Jimmy Leslie, Casey Pedersen, Cameron Pedersen, Corey Pedersen, Milena Pedersen; and 16 great-grandchildren, Raven Wood, Elena Wood, Faith Carter, Travis Smith, Jr., Kayleigh Smith, Trevor Leslie, Brandon Kennedy, Samantha Leslie, Ryan Leslie, Tyler Leslie, Dalton Pedersen, Skyler Pedersen, Payton Pedersen, Casey Pedersen, Jr., Zenadie Mireles and Riley Pedersen.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 15, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Griffith-Cline Funeral Home, 720 Manatee Avenue West, Bradenton, Florida.
