Gloria D. Oakman, affectionately known as “Gram”, 84 of Howland passed away on March 6, 2018 while wintering in Bradenton, Florida.
Born September 17, 1933 in McKeesport, PA she was the daughter of John and Goldie Swift.
Gloria lived a wonderful life filled with love for her family. She was an avid reader, enjoyed sewing her quilts and going out to eat.
Gloria enjoyed her collection of sewing machines and was known as “the sewing machine lady” by those in her sewing community.
She also enjoyed many years of travel with her husband.
Gloria was a graduate of Berlin Brothers Valley High School in Pennsylvania. She earned her Bachelor and Master’s degrees from Kent State University with a degree in education. Gloria was a 4th grade teacher in Bristolville, Ohio until she retired in 1995. Gloria also spent time as a Sunday school teacher and a Cub Scout den leader.
Memories of Gloria will be carried on by her husband, Earl, of 65 years and her children: Greg (Karen) of Austintown, Dave of Champion, and Brenda (Dennis) of Austintown. Also left to cherish her memories are her grandchildren: Brandy (Nelson) Mitchell, Autumn (Jon) Gomori, Jed and Morgan Oakman, Ashley, Mathew (Amanda), Samantha and Benjamin Devenport and five great-grand children Noah, Jonah, Avah, Kailee and Kaiden.
She was preceded in death by her son Michael Oakman.
