On the morning of October 7, 2018, Jane Londona went home to be with the Lord. She was 89 years old.
Jane was born on December 4, 1928 in West Haven, Connecticut to Louis and Jessie Murray in a house that her father had built with his own two hands. Her childhood home had luxuries that were not common back in the 1920s, such as indoor plumbing and telephone. She spent much time on the beach with her friends and enjoyed fishing for flounder in the Long Island Sound. She attended West Haven High School and graduated in 1946. She briefly went to business school to learn to run a comptometer and worked for Western Electric in bookkeeping for many years.
In 1948, she married the man she would be married to for nearly 60 years, John Londona. They met at a roller rink, and it was love at first sight. Over the next 21 years, they welcomed four children into their family. Jane gave up her job to raise her family, a decision she never regretted. Eventually, when the youngest was old enough for full-time school, she returned to the workforce part-time, working inventory for a temporary agency. In 1990, after retirement a few years earlier, they moved to Florida, where they shared a home for 17 years. Jane continued to live in their shared home until 2017, when she settled into a retirement community. There, she was adored by everyone. In her spare time, she was an avid and very lucky bingo player, watched the Young and the Restless for many years, was a Scrabble and Yahtzee player, and enjoyed doing crossword and jigsaw puzzles. The biggest loves of her life, though, rested in her family. She was an excellent cook and was an extreme couponer long before it became popular. Jane was a daughter and a sister, an aunt and a niece, a friend and colleague, a wife, a mother, a grandmother and a great-grandma. She was infinitely loved and will be infinitely missed.
Jane is predeceased by her husband, John, and her parents, Louis and Jessie Murray. She is survived by a brother, Alan (Maud) Murray of Bradenton; four children: Diane (Michael) Kline of St. Charles, IL, John (Joan) Londona of West Haven, CT, Jeffrey (Kristen) Londona of Ridgefield, CT, and Wendy (John) Peavy of Bradenton; seven grandchildren: Amanda (Joseph) Palermo of South Elgin, IL, Jenna (Louis) Dell of Geneva, IL, Michael Kline of St. Charles, IL, Kevin and Monica Mullen, of West Haven, CT, and Madison and Mackenzie Londona, of Ridgefield, CT; and five great-grandchildren: Mila and Parker Dell, Trevor and Ethan Palermo, and Lacey Mullen.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the American Heart Association in Jane's memory. A memorial service is planned for Thursday, October 18, 2018 at 11:00am at Bayside Community Church, 6609 Manatee Ave. W., Bradenton, FL 34209.
