Katherine (Kate) Leonard, 41, Bradenton, passed away July 7, 2018. Kate was born in Wayland, MA, and moved to Bradenton in 2009.
Kate attended New College, Sarasota, where she majored in Art and also was a founder of the dance program, managed the sculpting studio, taught ceramics, and tutored students in geometry. She also spent four months in Lima, Peru doing field work and compiling data for Save the Children. In Boston, she was the merchandise manager and a buyer for a jewelry chain, was an accomplished jewelry and ceramics artist, and was a performing member of the Guild Dancers, a non-profit dance group in Lunenburg, MA.
Kate was predeceased by her grandparents, John and Dot Ann Schaut of Bradenton, and Phyllis and Archibald Leonard of Massachusetts; and by her aunt, Julie Leonard of Bradenton. She is survived by her mother, Ann Schaut Price [Jerry] of Bradenton; her father, Richard Leonard of Lunenburg, Massachusetts; her brother Douglas Leonard [Melinda Baker] and baby nephew Evan Baker-Leonard of Nashville, Tennessee; her Uncle Joe Schaut (Chris Wren) of Provo, Utah; her caring stepfamily Carrie, Preston, Otis and Imogene Whaley and Hilleary Price, of Bradenton; her loving, devoted friend Lance Zavitz of Bradenton; and many extended family members and friends.
Kate loved and cared deeply. All who knew her were touched by her warmth, her unique wit, and her open humanity.
There will be a celebration of Kate's life at 2:30 P.M. on Saturday, July 21 at Casa Mora Extended Care, 1902 59th St. W., Bradenton.
