Thomas Joseph Larkin went to the Lord on June 2, 2018, at the age of 91. He was born on October 8, 1926 in Chicora, Pennsylvania, to Florence Alida Larkin and Arthur Lee Larkin. He graduated from Chicora High School in 1944 and immediately joined the Army Air Corps. He served in the 475th Fighter group in Korea until his discharge in 1946. After his military service, he attended Penn State University, graduating in 1951, with a degree in Business and Hotel Administration.
Shortly after his graduation, he moved to Florida and managed a hotel in Lake Alfred, Florida, and later as Manager of the Timuquana Country Club in Jacksonville. He met Joan “Jody” Alderman while working in Jacksonville, and they were married in 1954. In 1957, they moved from Jacksonville to Bradenton, Florida, where Tom opened Larkin Motors, selling foreign sports cars until 1980. He treated his customers as he treated everyone, with kindness, respect, and a great sense of humor. After selling Larkin Motors, he then worked for Bank of America until he retired in 1994.
Tom was an avid golfer and was a member of the Bradenton Country Club for over 50 years. He was an avid sports fan and loved watching his “Nittany Lions” football team and SEC football.
Tom served his church, First United Methodist, for over 50 years; and his community through many organizations, including the Bradenton Kiwanis Club. He was awarded the Golden Plaque for being a weekly blood donor since 1946.
His first love was his family and he was devoted to his wife, Jody, his children, Leigh Ann Larkin Webb and Thomas A. “Tommy” Larkin, and, to his grandchildren, Whitney Alyse Webb and Shelby Larkin Webb.
Many summers were enjoyed at their summer homes, first in Hiawassee, Georgia and then in Maggie Valley, North Carolina. Tom was a longtime member of the Maggie Valley Country Club and loved golfing, and taking family trips.
Tom was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jody, Thomas A. Larkin, his son, and his brother, Arthur L. Larkin. He is survived by his brother, John Robert Larkin of Jacksonville, Florida, his daughter, Leigh Ann Larkin Webb of Sarasota, Florida, and his granddaughters, Whitney A.
