Virginia R. Barco
Virginia Ruth Roberts Barco was born in Bradenton, Florida, on March 2, 1924 and was a lifelong resident of her hometown. Virginia graduated from Manatee High School and was the salutatorian for her beloved Class of 1942. During high school, she always felt fortunate to study for a summer at Florida State College for Women, now Florida State University. Upon graduation, she went to work at the First National Bank of Bradenton starting as a teller. In 1973, she was promoted to vice president of operations/cashier. The bank later became Ellis National Bank, NCNB, Nationsbank and Bank of America, from which she retired in 1989. Virginia was a long-standing member of Samoset First Baptist Church, where she served as chairman of the finance committee. She was devoted to her family and was a loyal friend to many.
Virginia is survived by her daughter, Patricia Kizer (Gregg); son, Phil Barco; a brother, William Roberts (Margie); and numerous nephews and nieces whom she adored. Virginia is predeceased by her parents, Millard and Eva Roberts and a brother, Dr. Millard Mason Roberts (Anita).
Services will be held at Griffith-Cline Funeral Home, 720 Manatee Avenue West, Bradenton, FL 34205 on Friday, December 15, 2017 at 11 a.m. There will be a visitation at 10:00 a.m. preceding the service. Reverend Roland Davis, pastor, Samoset Baptist Church, will officiate the service.
