MaryAnn Sergio Morris

March 30, 1964 ~ February 11, 2020 (age 55)

Obituary

MaryAnn (Mare) Morris passed on February 11, 2020 after what eventually came to be an extended battle with breast cancer.  She was born on March 30, 1964 to Matthew (Matt) and Margaret (Peg) Sergio (née Smith).

Mare lived most of her life in the Philadelphia, Pa. area, and grew up along with her four sisters in nearby Conshohocken, Pa.  She graduated from Plymouth Whitemarsh high school, and went on to obtain an Associate’s Degree, while majoring in Computer Science, from Gwynedd Mercy College.

MaryAnn married Eugene (Gene) Morris Jr. and became the stepmother to Gene’s two sons, Steven Morris and Thomas Morris.  On July 3, 2000, MaryAnn joyously gave birth to daughter Maureen, and settled at Souderton, Pa.

With her daughter Maureen selecting to attend college at Florida Gulf Coast University, and with a very strong love for Florida, MaryAnn moved to the Bradenton area in the Fall of 2018, while still retaining her northern home in Souderton, Pa.

After graduating college, Mare spent her entire career working with computers, particularly as a programmer/analyst.  Mare worked a short time with an adoption agency, and then many years with her husband for Positek, a producer of point of sale software and hardware.  After taking time off to raise their daughter as a stay at home mom during Maureen’s pre-school years, Mare again joined her husband in working with David’s Bridal, as a data scientist.  After moving to Florida, MaryAnn worked with the Manatee School District, in her familiar role as a programmer/analyst, a job she greatly enjoyed.

MaryAnn loved the beach, travelling (particularly to Hawaii), reading, anything Disney, computers, simply floating in a pool during downtime, and gatherings with friends and relatives.  She gained interest in trying new hobbies, and was enjoying learning kayaking and playing pickleball until becoming ill.  During her younger years, MaryAnn was a competitive gymnast and softball player, and enjoyed skiing.

Mare taught gymnastics, and as a devoted mother very close to her daughter Maureen, was very involved in all her daughter’s activities, especially swimming.  MayAnn became heavily involved with the Souderton community swim teams, fulfilling many roles, and also served as their Buxmont league representative.

MaryAnn leaves behind her husband Gene, her daughter Maureen, and her stepsons, Steven and Thomas.  Also surviving her are Mare’s mother and father, Peg and Matt Sergio; four sisters, Toni, Marie, Lucy, and Michelle; and many nephews and nieces.

A service will be held at Griffith-Cline Funeral Home, 720 Manatee Ave. West, Bradenton, FL  34205, at 6:30 PM on Monday, February 17, 2020.   A second service will be held in the Philadelphia area, date TBD.
